Thread: Best platform to create custom indicators

  1. #1
I'm looking for a platform that's flexible and friendly to design my own indicators from scratch. I've worked something out with MT4, but I feel like it falls short on certain things. What options do you recommend to me? I'd prefer something where I don't have to be a professional programmer to make adjustments.

For now I have tried cTrader and the truth, much more modern than MT4, but also something more complicated at first. Can anyone who has used both can share real experience, not cheap advertising?

If you want ease, go to TradingView. You dont need to be a genius to make basic scripts and the Pine Script is quite friendly. Yes, get ready to pay if you want full access.

MT5 is better than MT4, but anyway, everything MetaTrader is still dinosaur compared to newer platforms. The problem is that many cheap brokers only offer MT4.

Good point. Im really interested in something that I can automate later too without having to reinvent the wheel. Does TradingView support that or do I better look for another side?

TradingView automates but only in Backtesting and alerts... for real execution you need to connect with an external broker or pay for bots. Dont get so excited, not everything is gold there.

Im tempted to see what NinjaTrader is like. Ive read very divided opinions, some say its great to create indicators, others say its chaos to learn. Serious opinions?

NinjaTrader is powerful, but if you don't know what an event-driven architecture is or get involved, it's like wanting to drive a Formula 1 without a license.

Hahaha! It was clear to me. See, has any mortal managed to create something decent in NinjaTrader without dying in the attempt?

Of course you do, but it takes hours. I learned in three months with YouTube tutorials. If you dont have patience, you better not start.
