Thread: XAU/USD and XAG/USD - Gold and Silver FX Traders Thread

  1. #1
Hi, I noticed there's no ribbon for XAU (Gold) XAG (Silver) FX alloys in interactive trading. I thought it would be great to have a place to talk about these.Feel free to post about AU / AG crossed non USD as well. Metals are increasingly more volatile particularly Gold, these days and offer a commodity passing while trading in an FX platform. A growing number of brokers are offering XAU/G. Lt;will save as a relic. Need distance here things are shing. Edit: not anymore - august 2013 now
there's no leverage. Futures are basically cheaper for US citizens these days to exchange. Relic article: I will attempt to upgrade the thread periodically with fundamentals, TA, reading/links, through the times. Metals can gross or wipe out some nice pips from your account quicker than particular currencies. I propose demo trading first, before reside, if you're unfamiliar with how metals proceed or what drives them besides the inverse relationship to fiat currencies notably the USD. So to start, early today we struck a monthly high on XAU/USD of just about 1131
then retreated back down to the 1110/6 array region. Where we rest now (1114 @ time of article) XAU/U opened Greater this week after a strong move upward last Friday getting back against the USD after the Fed's Discount Rate shift info, sent it almost down from 1124 to strong support at the 1098 area (1100 psych support). Good Luck importantly,
stop in! ----- -- Edit - end of JULY 2013. - WOW Funny to return. . So we went from the 1000s almost to 2000 then back down. Since the article. Whatever the case I'm cleaning this up a bit. And incorporating new LINKS FOR NEWBIES....

In a number of the OLDER posts here I'd like to be able to join a live GIF chart file and noticed one day that everytime the ribbon is refreshed the chart would too.BAD, for a number of the previous posts since the charts don't fit, GOOD for Quotes. NOW they changed a bunch of stuff I can't get the real charts up here! Though the OLD ones refresh. So despite all of my attempts here are live chart LINKS. Going to figure out this.

Ultimately we have broken the past weeks range!!!

We've broken the upper trendline of this downward channel gift on XAU/USD daily chart.

Returned risk appetite and Euro (although trapped in range) recovery from sub .3000 have helped add to the fire!

Taken a couple of days away XAU while focusing on cable besides a long TP hit.

Now, with some simplicity on Cable on Fibre I will be watching this area closely and looking to get long on pullback. Or just jump on and ride.
If breakout sustains I will appear to target 1150/60 area next

Currently we are stopped @ the 1134/5 field of resistance.

    EDIT: 1134 Breached!!!!

    Quick chart attached

  3. #3
1136 resistance offered met by buyers on round, Now lying @ 1132/3 lower trendline support region which we're currently hitting now.

Gold does not always respond in the fashion we may want, like or perceive,
nevertheless, risk = benefit (or loss!) Thus,

    taking:
    Long Scalp - in @ 1133.45

I do not need to outlay stops for many others so -

Potential stop area playing off this line

= below 1131 support region Tight stop-

    Not a high risk trade.
Subsequently if 1131 area busted and held I shall consider short to possible 1120 area...

    Target/s - retest 1136/7 respectively - and upward

When stopped out I shall eye short or seem to lower level supports for following long.
Tonight needed a nice open for scalping the top.

EDIT: Seems like we enter RANGE!

DXY helpful in gauging reverse correlation USD/GOLD

    Better Late than Never!

    We have Liftoff!

1132 support holds as of yet. Bears have stepped aside temporarily.

Lets see if we can take 1134/6 first.

To guarantee profit on scalps use tracking stops of your desired means.
On larger positions a 200 pip TS can work well. You would like to guarantee breathing room.

200 pips is rather tight, nevertheless will suffice when scalping... We can get tighter, and use BE or even a TS that leaves 10 or 20 pips.
Depending on lot size and goal.

NOTE EURO USD has yet to budge with this Uptick
EDIT: two Now Euro Follows GOLD up marginally....
Cable as well. Not significance. I agree they can trend likewise and I am working on the overlay chart...

One way to Check at it is

GOLD = The True GLOBAL RESERVE CURRENCY

That the Euro is many Countries, Nevertheless Merely European,

    EVERYONE Speaks GOLD!

Edit: 1 Lot closed @ indecisive PA 1134.50 TP
    1 open

1134 serving as slight support on low volume commerce

We need to go a bit lower to acquire more steam and bring more buyers

However on todays breakout I am looking for a few possible correction to come along with shorts might be favorable.
Scalping to the uptrend is almost always a good idea.

    Breach posted in earlier charts:
BULL or bear patterns buying and selling could be easily figured out using simple S/R
    very similar to fibos
Don't treat as ordinary Currency pair. Gold is a concrete commodity with different uses and driving variables apart from a store of value,
like eco 101 supply and demand (just an example)
Search for weakness in either fashion for scalp or multi day trade.
Position order - Position stop below company support - Use realistic targets and Trailing stops to ensure profit
    Trade smart.

    Gold Bull is Back!

  6. #6
I believed Gold would go backwards for some time but I believe you may be right about a bull run

  7. #7
See my chart 3 posts back. We have broken through a significant trendline on the daily.

Gold has a tendency to move sideways occasionally and disobey lines on briefer TFs
nevertheless on the daily it is clearly breached.

Together with todays move in addition to the USD pullback AND
sustained gains (ie 1050 / 1100 / 1116/20) we've retreated and been rejected up to now at lower prices.

    The following run is underway.
1226 might be the ultimate goal to breach first.
We've got lower areas first obviously to encounter.

    Thanks For posting!!!

    Banana, I like the parameters.

1134 ought to work in favor of bulls as resistance turned support. I'm setting sights on 1160 next

    Nothing like waking TPs Strike!

TP of remaining lot 1137.75 - Hit
Later added small lots(before bed!) 1137.95 (only made it now that I seem)

    One guide shut (1136.30)

We are working on yesterday's high right now. And restricted as of yet JUST under 1138... (closes) traded into 1138

Cable TP 5054 Strike (This number 5050 may prove an intriguing place)

PA retreating rapidly, asleep but alive for breakout

Back to bed! Good luck all.
    More tomorrow,
    X-

PS ch the bull and ride!
