Don't know the acutal size, but storing data there that is significant isn't so wise as MT if need be, over writes that area by using their imformation, any item you put there is missing.

You are limited to 27 characters. . Cowboy is right because the broker will also use this field for notes and also erase yours. . They will normally note sl/tp and margin calls in this area. .

yeh cheers - I only need to read it once - I have 2 mt4s talking to each other and just wanted to pass on some stuff across to the receiver once so that it could be displayed on the receiving chart

That'll work as the sole time MT writes to that area is when an order is shut (S/L, T/F), parital near, closeby. And it writes there on withdrawals and deposits.

    Interesting way to pass info.

It's funny nobody has an solution to this. I had someone create a script to help us examine this and the limit seems to be 31 characters max, including spaces. If there are more than 31 characters, the mt4 host seems to automatically reject the whole comment. This was analyzed using mt4 b765 and b745 using pending orders.

We began to note that our comments were not being stored on the EA orders and couldn't figure out why.

It's possible that your broker can substitute comments using their own or opt not to store comments, but no sensible broker does so except in specific conditions. Like if you cancel an order that never filled or when the good-til-expiration date has been reached, then they may replace the comment with'cancelled' or'expired'. Older bridges could sometimes put broker codes that helped identify the order through the bridge, but these bridges have been updated. The comment field allows traders to save info and it should remain untouched, except for a speccific reason.
