Thread: Ever traded during a national emergency

I am sort of new to this biz, good with charts, but only learning about potential news related dangers. So, here is my query:

I was day trading last week, once I noticed all of my trades suddenly went south for a few min. According to the commentary I use, a rumor had been started that an Iranian missle had struck on a US Naval vessel. Lucky for me, the rumor was refuted, then my trades completed later.

However, this event raises for me the following questions: What happens to trades when real disasters arise? Just how far have trades drawn down in the past during a real US, or other nation's crisis?

Was anybody out there trading on 9/11/01? Katrina? Tsunami? Start of riots? Terrorism in London? If so, did your trades recover? Or did you drop all of you $$?

Did anyone decide to immediately escape from a trade because of a astrophe? In that case, did you have trouble closing out with broker?

    Thank you for any input.

Thanks for your imput, but I truly do want to hear some war stories. My charts don't go back that way, and don't give results of individual's expertise with brokers.

I sincerely hope you had great luck, if you're trading back then. What others?

I'd love to know whether any of you were ever caught in a trade during a national crisis -- including 9/11/2001, Tsunami, Terrorist attack, etc..

If so what was your experience?

If you tried to sell off instantly upon hearing the news was your own broker able to shut your trade instantly?

If not how large was the draw down on your trade?

Did the commerce return to normal?

Please, just reply with YOUR experience if this actually happened to you.

    Thanks.

Like what pairtrader... by simply looking at chart should tell you each chance

I don't know if you be able to pull a tick chart that way back that that will show every trade that took place

Sorry I had been trading investing futurs and to tell you the fact I can not recall of the best my head if they closed it down for 2 days or not damm I must be getting old but I do recall the mkt being very voltile in the weeks after. (t-bills)

I remember having this discussion on the FFF many years back. Most said the market came back after 9/11 after a couple of days.

The 1 thing I remember most of all was the trader who'd made an unexpected fantastic amount on 9/11. He donated it .

From that came the saying which has been on the forum for awhile:

Lets hope we are all long on the USD when they ch Osama.
