Thread: Backtesting BGX

  1. #1
    Hi ,

that I am all set to begin backtesting the Bunnygirl system. I am completely new to MT4 and that I fear I will do something wrong or have missed something. I do not want my backtest results to be bad or invalid. I am certain that I've setup the information and converted it into the different time periods correctly. I've read the threads on backtesting at the forum, and was wondering whether anyone has got any more useful advice for backtesting the BGX system or backtesting generally?

Also I've downloaded the BGX indior but at the input it is overlooking the choices Eur_spread and Other_spread. Perhaps you have downloaded an older version? Or am I?

    Many thanks,

    Arcane.

    Stockwet,

Could you not use the date/time works in MQ4 to determine if you're in the last 5 minutes of the timeframe, not execute the trade if that is the case?

I believe it would be really tricky. My experiences with the date/time works in MQ4 are sketchy. I think you'd need a really good MQ4 programmer. I'm also not a believer in automated backtesting. I simply don't believe it does anything to you except give you a few numbers that you may or may not be convinced in.

Are there some EAs out there that may autotrade the bunnygirl? I keep missing the entries because I'm not staring at my PC all the time.

You don't need to stare at your computer all the time to perform bgx. I only look for crosses during the euro and we start as valid crosses. Most time, the cross don't perform to anything worth risking 20-30 pips for. Thus don't stare in the afternoon awaiting a cross to occur.

Thank You Nitman. Can you really do limit orders or reside orders based on the crosses?

The alternatives on the indior have been custom items I introduced to davidwt's original indior. Here's my indior attached.

I believe you're likely to discover that backtesting the BGX system is highly unreliable. The major impetus you will discover regards the 5-minute rule, and that's that you shouldn't enter a trade in the last 5 minutes of this candle. The way to backtest this is to get a corresponding 5 minute chart up with your 30 minute chart and look at the 5 minute candles on each entry. The other solution is to ignore the 5 minute rule, but, that will result in a number of false positives.

The best way to appraise BGX, in all honesty, would be to demonion test it for some time period (a few months). Otherwise, just do your best and see what type of numbers you come up with, but, recognize they aren't necessarily completely accurate.
