Hello men,
With broker accounts in various places it suddenly dawned on me that for my non latency dependant egies it'd be cheaper to setup a house VPS. I also do not trust VPS companies if I'm honest.
I'm hoping we can begin a serious discussion about this as I'm sure I'm not the only one....
1) Connectivity
that I live in the UK and am connected through ADSL, fine 18mb connection but what if it goes down? . I've a mobile USB dongle as backup. How can I tell windows server 2003 to switch into the dongle in case it finds the ADSL is down? What appliions do I need?
2) Choosing a Box, laptop, netbook etc..
This is one candidate, a minimal energy consumption fanless PC. It's dual core cpu, dual channel corsair ram, 1mb l2 cache.

3) Reduny
If MT4 crashes for any reason how do I tell it to restart, I will be running several MT4's how can I get it to restart the ideal MT4?
How can I tell MT4 to restart when it hasn't been connected to the brokers host for X quantity of time?
4) Running prices
There's no denying, the expense of electricity is expensive here in the UK. To conduct a standard desktop PC would cost approximately #30 a month in electricity, we're also considering some majour price hikes next year aswell. Could switching to a laptop save eleccy? Does a lower wattage rating mean less electricity used?
5) Alerts
I would love to be alerted via SMS or email about major events, i.e. connection goes down, MT4 crashes, etc.. What appliions do I need?
6) Operating System
All Fantastic VPS's tend to use Windows Server 2003. I'm guessing this is because it is the quickest, most secure.
7) Execution
Despite what VPS companies tell you, when I have used my home PC my trades appear to get implemented fine, I receive all the processor power rather than sharing it with other people on a VPS. If pings are reduced to the brokers servers then I should get better performance than using a vps?
8) Power collapse
What is the cheapest UPS you can get? Post links for US, Europe and UK.
