Thread: How to backtest Renko?

  1. #1
Renko Block Charts known for its simplicity and a good trend following noise filtered chart.

Renko also give us flexibility for displaying it on MT4, because it available in 3 variants, as a script, as an indior, as an EA and it's all up to you to choose which version would you like.

However, the major problem, we can not backtest it.

Very appreciate if anyone know how to backtest Renko and share with us.

    Thank you beforehand.

This is copied from my FAQ document about using off-line chart. Why you just don't offer the hyperlink or simply attach the entire document here? There are tips there.

I quoted from advice I discovered on a forum. I humbly apologize if they were your words.

I'd think that you're experienced enough to understand that anything and everything posted to forums will eventually be shared all over the Internet. I've run across a decompiled version of the Renko script (no, I still didn't decompile or place it, nor would I use it).

People who post here share their knowledge and experience continuously and even quote what others have stated - that is part of what forums are for.

Once more, please accept my apology for quoting something that you said. If I experience any advice from the future that's obviously attributable to you I shall refrain from discussing it.

Thank you Lou G and ur for Your replied.

I'm also apologize ur words quoted here with no name as the origin.

Hope this wouldn't occur again in the future and let's focus that we are here to share knowledge and experience (Lou G words).

I have been attempted the back test measures above and successfully completed to step 5.

On step 6I shed RenkoLiveChart_v1.6. Script to M1 chart.

The script run easily and write Open Offline M2 to View Chart on left corner.

But I'm stuck and confuse on step 7 which said you can backtest with M5 since the timeframe

How do I do backtest with M5 as the timeframe?

I attempted open egy tester and run LFH Simulator 3 on M5, it open new M5 chart which said Waiting for Update.

Tried to run other EA on M5 egy tester, the new open M5 egy tester chart still said Waiting for Update.

Tried to change the time period of M1 chart (which has RenkoLiveChart_v1.6. Mq4 script onto it) to M5 time period, it stated Do you really wish to stop script RenkoLiveChart_v1.6. mq4?

When I click Yes, it change to M5 chart then Waiting for Update on M5 chart.

When I click , it back again to M1 chart and nothing else happen.

    Any info?

After step 6 you should rather see Open Offline M5 to View Chart, when executed properly. However, it count for my Renko script, I really don't know if the exact same is true for your free script.

I feel the exact same because you are, the issue is on the RenkoLiveChart_v1.6 script that not code for backtest intent.

Renko backtest is depend on the right script for producing Renko bricks on backtest chart.

How can I have your Renko script?

If your Renko script is free of charge, do you please inform me where to download it?

However, if your Renko script is a commercial, do you please inform me just how much it cost (hope not expensive...) and where I could buy it?

    Thank you.

My script is commercial as I am placing much time to support it. It prices currently 60 EUR (used to be 30 EUR, but service is taking more time now). For link, please PM me as it is illegal for most people to give commercial links on forexforum.co.za (you can use also Google'Renko MT4 Michal' to spot it).
