Thread: how long does it takes to become a successful trader?

I believe it depends on what your studying. If your focus is on finding the ideal indior combo and/or do what 95 percent of other traders are doing then you may never be successful. If you focus on finding an exploitable inefficiency in the market then it could just be a couple of years. I am not profitable, this really is my best guess.

6 1/2 years later, very on and off however, been profitable for 3months area and well twice but missing the plot / market conditions destroyed this both times.

Could take you years or months or never, treat this like a hobby / personal challenge, a hobby / personal challenge which could make you rich.

So it's worth the time / money expended on it if you maintain both at a hobby level

Stop! Desperation positions to lose it all. (Regrettably, I understand.)
Try simulation or demo or paper, or at least drop to pennies.

Should not take long; edge and mm are about all you need.

The matter with falling to pennys is you will learn to cope with the shortage of anxiety, do great, then return to losing if it's considered real cash to you

There are so few advantages which are worth a damn, brings trading back into a 50/50 game just worse since you will fall for the shed 20 take 4 game as 4 is far better than losing and spreads up, factoring out spreads over my 2000 transactions I would not be down $1500 I'd be up $4500 spot approx.

Its an easy game, but it's 1 of the toughest you are ever going to attempt to master.

Any answers you get to this query won't be any help to you as individuals learn at different rates.

It's like asking how much time does it take to learn how to drive - it differs for everybody!

Some people will say 3 or 5 years or whatever and wish to have you think THAT is how much time it happens as they do not like to believe somebody else can learn it faster than those.

    Just my 2p...

Don't impose any limitations on yourself.

Another factor is that the time period you trade. For somebody trading 5m it should take less time to become successful. Now compare it to somebody trading the D1. From a time period just perspective, it takes longer for a D1 trader (myself included) to have enough experience and are more successful.

Your shittiest encounters on the market will probably be your most valuable... As long as you choose to see it this way and stick to your own goal.

Make no mistake its a tough, long ass road but a satisfying one the same. Watch the positives...
That is a very well thought out post Cindy and I agree with what you stated.

I'm on year 6 dabbling, fourth year of critical learning so that I must be slower than many. I do ok now though but it was the toughest thing I've ever done.

Never give up will be my advice. The result / lifestyle would be worth the years of work.
