Personally, I prefer brokers with strong regulation, even if they charge more. I prefer to lose in spreads and win in security. Better that than ending up fighting for a $512 withdrawal that never comes.

I use a little-known Australian broker, but regulated by ASIC. It never failed me in three years. I don�t mention it so that it doesn�t fill with traders hunting rebounds, because that�s where the deterioration begins.
Most do not read the terms of use. Then they complain when they cannot withdraw profits generated by arbitration or EA�s not allowed. Read before crying.
Honestly, I think many blame the broker for their own mistakes. Yes, there are scammers, but there are also many who operate without stop, over-leverage and unrealistic expectations. So there is no broker to save you.
After going through five brokers, I've come to a conclusion: if you're not profitable at demo, switching from real broker is not going to change anything. First focus on your system. Then worry about the broker.
