Thread: OANDA spread on EURO 3.0

I'd been with Oanda since late 2005.

For the majority of the time I considered them the very best Fx broker.

Early this year I made the move away from Oanda to TD Ameritrade (thinkorswim).

Oanda spreads do widen drastically whereas TDA typically includes a fixed spread 2.5 points.

Because I really don't own scalp, I do not believe this a large cost difference as TDA's platform is literally exceptional. Oanda's is decent but leaves a lot to be desired.

The way that they handle their internal matching order book, their liqudity suppliers, or anything else has changed... much to the disadvantage of their overall retail customer.

I concur with all of this, I also have noticed the spreads are sometimes different between the FXtrade platform and the MT4 platform. I've been pleased with Oanda, but the more I transition to longer duration trading that the less comfortable I am trading together. I still think they're the best among the market makers though.

I agree with you. Something has changed at Oanda and they are no longer competitive. I have also moved my account everywhere.

But but; you can exchange on the weekends along with about another 100 traders and take advantage of these unbeatable tight spreads.

Theoretically speaking though spreads should be based on liquidity directly connected to libor rates.

BTW, I assessed Oanda's spread history of EURUSD and saw a high of 1.9 in the time of the launch which then decreased to 1.3 - 1.2. Never saw 3 pips wide
Yes, Oanda spreads can occasionally widen for no clear reason or don't return to pre-news amounts for long around some news. However, I believe they do report them accurately, no matter what.

    Here's Trichet yesterday:

That's from http://fxtrade.oanda.com/why/spreads/recent, place to EDT (GMT-4). That page is delayed hoursand yesterday was no exception. Your reply was posted 4.5 hours after Trichet started speaking, so not sure where you checked.

Oanda spread is becoming worse, but what we had before was too good to be true repaired at 0.9

But the alternative that's second best is MB Trading, they will provide you a slippage if there's volatility that's not even close to what it should be...

You can however, state that the slippage can go either way and will do so after a couple of hundred trades so it doesnt matter...

conclusion: remain with Oanda and remember that this cost is nothing compared to stock trading...
