View Full Version : How much time do I need to quit my job and live trading?

Hello everyone. I work full time but I am studying trading at night. I want to know how many months or years it took you to leave the job and live alone from the market. Is it realistic to think about that? How much capital is needed minimum? I am trying to put together a plan, but there is so much contradictory information that I miss.

I haven't left my job for 4 years. Trading gives freedom, yes, but don't expect magical results in a year. The learning curve is hard, especially if you don't have a mentor or clear method.

Do you really think that with a YouTube loan you're going to replace a stable salary? Go down to the ground, this isn't copy-paste and wait for dollars.

The question is not how long, but how long you can sustain yourself without fixed income while learning. If you have a financial cushion and discipline, in 2-3 years you could do it... but it is not a guarantee.

I quit my job at 18 months, with 20k saved and a 5k bill. I regret it. I underestimated the emotional stress of operating to pay bills. Now I went back to working part-time while I'm still operating.

I lived on trading for 2 years and ended up returning to the corporate world. Not because it didnt work, but because I felt isolated, alone and under constant pressure. Dont idealize the freedom of trading if you dont know what it involves psychologically.

I appreciate the sincerity, honestly. Im not looking for smoke, just knowing if its possible with constancy. Im clear that its a long way, but I dont want to stay tied to a job I hate for the rest of my life.

It's possible. But if your plan is to quit work at 6 months because you saw an Instagram reel with a kid driving a Lamborghini, you're in the oven. Take it as a race, not as an escape.

I set up an emergency fund to cover me 12 months, I got to live on trading and today I keep doing it. The key was to have a replicable system and NOT scale my lifestyle at the same pace as my earnings.

My advice: start part-time, I built consistency with a small account and when you see that you can climb it without losing emotional control, there you think to dedicate 100%. Never before.

The truth is that if you ask how much time do I need? youre probably not ready yet. Whoevers ready already has numbers, log, and a validated learning curve. Instead of dreaming about living trading, dream of stopping making the same mistakes.

You're new, you notice. It's not evil. I just understood that there's no straight line here. Some take 1 year, others 5. The important thing is not to abandon when you don't see fast results. Persistence kills talent.

I had 11 months of winning streak, and just when I thought I could quit work, the worst streak of my life came. If you dont know how to lose and survive, youll never be able to live off trading.

I'm glad you asked this question. Many come in believing that this is like a well-played casino. But what you don't say is how many times you think about quitting before things work out.

Stop asking and start documenting EVERYTHING. Gains, losses, emotions, market conditions. When you have at least 6 green months in a row, just there you ask this question again.

The key is to understand that its not just about technique or strategy, but about risk management, emotional control and having a comprehensive financial plan. If you think youre going to do a lot of humility, then theres a lot of work. If you think youre going to do a lot of work. If youre going to do a lot of work, youre going to have a lot of work. If youre going to do a lot of work. If youre going to do a lot of work, then youre going to do a lot of work. If youre going to do a lot of work, youre going to do a lot of work. If youre going to do a lot of work, youre going to do a lot of work.

And if you live in a country with less cost of living, the required capital changes a lot, doesn't it?

You say that the market is a mirror... how do you mentally prepare yourself so that it doesn't affect you so much?

Excellent everything, but can you really make 5% a month consistently without risking too much?

What if instead of living 100% of trading, you combine it with other sources of income? Wouldnt that be more realistic?

Isn't a smaller account supposed to be better at starting and testing with real pressure? Why do you suggest so much capital from the start?
