View Full Version : Can you really live off trading or is it pure marketing?

I have been reading forums, watching videos and following so-called traders in networks for months. Everyone says that they live on trading, that if financial freedom, if not bosses, or schedules. But in practice, everything I have tried ends in loss or frustration. Is there anyone here who really lives on trading and is not selling courses? I would like to know real experiences, without filters or empty promises.

And look, I dont want to be told that its possible if you propose it. Im looking for raw and realistic answers. If this is just smoke, Id rather know it now before I keep throwing money and time.
I've been doing this for three years. I barely get anything steady. Living from trading is possible, but it's not for everyone. If you're not willing to bleed first, you better not start.

Most of those you see in networks live to sell you the dream, not the trading. Cost-effective trading? Yes. Easy and for everyone? No way.

I applaud you for asking this question, because it is the one that many do not dare to ask. Most do not live from trading. They live with trading, which is different.

I've been profitable, but it cost me three accounts burned, two years of study and a therapist. It's not impossible, but it's not the fast way many sell either.

I'm sorry to burst the bubble, but most retail traders lose money, period, and if someone tells you otherwise, they're probably trying to sell you something.

Don't generalize so much. Some do, but you have to treat it as a serious business, with planning, metrics, review and emotional control.

We also have to consider the context: country where you live, cost of living, family pressure... Living trading in Switzerland is not the same as in Colombia.

Let us see if we understand that this is not a spiritual path or a movie of overcoming. It is a technical work, lonely and often frustrating.

I do scalping on the NASDAQ and I'm doing pretty well. But I don't go out to show off in networks because I don't have time or desire to deal with haters and sell us.

Im also starting and asking myself the same question. Im relieved to know that Im not the only one who doubts all this fantasy they sell.

Those who live on trading are those who understood that the secret is not in the magic indicator, but in risk management and discipline.

A good rule: if someone shows you only winning operations, run. The one that is real also shows the losses, the drawdown, the pain.
For me trading is like going to the gym. Everyone wants the result, but few endure the routine. Its not impossible, but it requires a level of brutal engagement.

I have read every message of this thread and I find it brutally honest. I would like to provide a more technical and structured perspective, based on my real experience. I have been operating for 7 years, the first 2 losing, the next 3 surviving emotions, and just in the last 2 I start to generate consistent income. I do not live 100% of trading yet, but I could do it if I reduced my standard of living. Why do I say this? Because profitable trading exists, but it is very far from the marketing of luxury and freedom. First of all, you need to understand that trading is not a source of fast income, it is a profession. Like any other career, it requires years of study, practice and frustrations. The difference is that here you can lose money while you learn, which in medicine or architecture does not happen. You should study technical analysis, fundamental, risk management, job psychology and above all, have a clear system with objective rules. The 80% of those who enter or even know what a serious relationship is.

Very good what you say, but do you really think a swing trader can live with 5 operations a week?

Thank you for your sincerity, the point about risk management opened my eyes.
Don't you think operating daily limits the potential to take advantage of intraday opportunities a lot? Don't you feel like you're losing trades?

And what do you do if you have 10 trade losers in a row? Doesn't it affect your trust, even if you have a good system?
Thank you for this piece of input. You no longer see publications like this on forums. Everything is smoke today.

You say you don't live 100% trading, but then how do you measure success? How much longer do you need?

Do you use any kind of emotions journal or do you do daily psychological follow-up?

How do you assess whether it is a changing market or whether your strategy has ceased to have an advantage?
Don't you think it's too optimistic to say that anyone can do it with effort? There are people who don't have a profile for this.
