View Full Version : I did it 3 months ago and I do not regret it. The backtesting environment in MT5 is infinitely superior. Multithreading, faster optimization, and also direct access to more markets from the same terminal. Yes, the migration of indicators was a pain.

I open this thread to discuss something that many of us keep postponing: Is it really worth migrating to MT5? I have been with MT4 for years, I have indicators, EAs, all adapted... but more and more brokers are pushing traders to MT5. Is the change worth the effort?

So, if you've been with MT4 for years and your system works, why are you getting complicated? Changers are looking for excuses to justify their losses, not out of real need. MT5 is not going to make you magically profitable.

The only thing I hate about MT5 is that it doesn't allow coverage like MT4. I mean, if you're used to opening cross positions, forget it. It forces you to net, and that personally cuts my wings.

I use MT5 in demo for quick testing. The integrated economic calendar is very practical, and the visual mode of testing is better for me than MT4. But to operate in real, I continue with MT4. Old but reliable.

What I find a mockery is that in 2025 we still have platforms that dont sync well with mobile devices. MT5 has a mobile version, but compared to TradingView... its like riding a donkey and watching a bullet train.

MT5 > MT4 in everything. Period. Those who follow with MT4 are either very comfortable or tied to old bots. Its like continuing to use Windows XP just because Im doing well. The world is moving forward.

With all due respect, comfort sometimes kills efficiency. I myself had an EA that worked only on MT4. But I migrated, reprogrammed everything, and now I have a much more robust and faster system.

The MT5 interface seems cleaner to me. I like that you can better customize the tabs and the pending command management is clearer. Whoever likes the order, MT5 will love it.

I am not going to change until MetaQuotes disconnects MT4 servers. As long as it continues to work and feed me, I see no reason to touch anything. If its not broken, dont fix it.

Well, I was forced to change. The broker stopped supporting MT4 and it was my turn to pass yes or yes. I hated it at first, but now I am used to it and I recognize that the performance is better.

One thing that is not mentioned much: the programming language. MQL5 is more powerful, more flexible and allows you to create more complex scripts. Of course, it has a learning curve. But it is worth it if you are a serious developer.

Crazy what it costs to find good free MT5 indicators. In MT4 there are thousands. MT5 still has smaller community. I dont know if its because people are lazy or what.

Tests with historical quality data in MT5 have no comparison. If you are a quantitative trader, it is simply another league. I would not return to MT4 even if I was paid.

Summing up: MT4 is like that old car you don't want to change because you know every noise. MT5 is the new car with all the sensors, but you still don't know how to adjust the seat. Which one do you prefer to drive?
