View Full Version : Anybody else see manipulation in Asian sessions?

Lately I have noticed strange movements in the Asian session, especially in pairs such as USD/JPY and AUD/JPY. Stop sweeps followed by immediate setbacks. Am I paranoid or is anyone else seeing the same thing? I am interested to know if others are watching it and if they have any strategy to avoid eating those traps.

Brother, you're not crazy. I stopped operating in Asia months ago for that very reason. Shameless stop hunts, especially when the volume is dead.

axrc4Toura
13-04-2025 02:25,
And what do you expect? Its the session where there is the least volume and the easiest is for the big ones to move the price. If youre going to operate there, minimum put SL mental.

I do operate that session and I'm doing fine, but I use fixed ranges and I get out fast. It's not for anyone, you need a lot of discipline and zero greed.

Just because of that manipulation you can enter perfect liquidity zones. You just need to know how to read the game, not cry about it.

Interesting about mental LS, but don't you think it also has to do with news that no one sees coming? Sometimes it seems more than manipulation, it looks like a planned trap.

The "hidden news" is a cheap excuse. The market does not need justification to move. Learn how to adapt or get out of the game.

I focused on the AUD/NZD crossing in that session and it's more fluid, without so many whipsaws. Maybe it's just a better choice of instrument.

esntesdaC
13-04-2025 02:52,
Good point about the pair, maybe I'm focusing too much on USD/JPY. Although I also saw it in GBP/JPY, which usually moves enough. I don't know, maybe I'm just overoperating.

The worst thing you can do in Asia is deal with large lots. There is no liquidity, the spread opens and takes you out by inertia. Lowers risk or changes session.

esndroesCcarchora
13-04-2025 03:00,
And the Asian session is literally a minefield if you don't know what you're doing.

OkesSores7
13-04-2025 03:06,
I have a rule: if the price moves without volume, I do not enter. And in Asia that spends 90% of the time.

esntesdaC
13-04-2025 03:10,
Thanks to everyone who responded. I think Im going to stop operating that session for a while, at least until I better understand the patterns that are repeated. The info youve shared serves me a lot.

esSbesCoShoC
13-04-2025 03:16,
An idea: analyze the behavior of the price the first two hours of the Asian session for a month. You will see that the pattern repeats much more than you imagine.

ciqiu
13-04-2025 03:20,
Or you can keep operating and keep losing, like everyone who doesn't learn, but well, everyone with their money.

The subject of manipulation in the Asian session gives for much more than simple complaints or warnings. Actually, there is a technical explanation behind what many call "manipulation." During this session, the volume of transactions is significantly smaller compared to London or New York. That means that banks, market makers or even medium funds cost much less to move the price. It is not that they are hunting your stop specifically, it is that the market needs liquidity, and that liquidity is provided by the poorly located stops of retail traders. In addition, many institutions take advantage of this low volume to test key areas before it opens London. What for a retailer looks like a meaningless sweep, for an institutional operator is a perfectly orchestrated liquidity collection. If you understood the concept of "smart money" you would see that these movements are necessary to build market structure. The problem is that most newcomers see the chart without context and react emotionally. One of the keys to successfully operating during this session is not to directly operate the breaks. The best thing is to wait for the price to liquidate an area (make the bar).

Thank you for this very comprehensive explanation, it makes a lot of sense.

And how do you know all that? Do you work in a bank or did you read it on a blog?

So much theory and then you sure don't make a profitable entry.

Especially waiting for confirmation after the sweep.

Can you share an example with graph? That would help you understand better.

Thank you for taking the time to explain it in such detail. Very useful indeed.

urino.radrugwz
13-04-2025 04:03,
And how exactly do you define rejection after a sweep? Do you base yourself on any pattern?

13-04-2025 04:06,
Honestly, these kinds of messages are the ones that really add up to the forum. Thank you crack.

It sounds nice, but when you're in real and you're swept away by the SL, you don't think about theory, you think about closing everything down.

Very interesting about the volume in Asia. I've never considered it that way. Thank you a thousand times!

13-04-2025 04:17,
And what do you think about using VWAP or volume profile in that session?

sesnTksCtes
13-04-2025 04:22,
That's a very good explanation. You really do dominate it.

SudesydoSgesda55
13-04-2025 04:28,
I mean, the solution to being swept away is not to do anything until they do and then they do come in?

Thank you, you opened my eyes with the concept of "liquidity collection." It makes all the sense.

Very good approach, especially about taking liquidity into account. I did not apply it so thoroughly.

Great contribution. It helped me to see some things from another angle, especially the context in larger temporalities.

And what if the price breaks the area and then comes back in?

Don't you think relying so much on price action without indicators is too subjective?

Do you really think the volume in forex makes sense when there is no central market?

esndroesCcarchora

It's not clear to me how you would define a valid break. Could you give a more specific example?

And how do you adjust that analysis when you opate in intraday with little time to decide?

Don't you think that works better on H4 or daily and not so much in minor temporalities?

Everything sounds great in theory, but what happens when there are fundamentals that break all the technical analysis?
