View Full Version : Is anyone else having trouble with IC Markets spreads?

For the past two weeks I have noticed that spreads at IC Markets, especially at nighttime (European time)
I've noticed it, too, and not just in EUR/USD. In GBP/JPY spreads shoot out of nowhere, even in moments of little movement. I don't think it's serious coming from a broker who brags about having ultra-low spreads.

It happens to me the same way, but only when I use the RAW account. In the standard it is still acceptable, although with hidden commissions in the execution. I suspect they are manipulating more than they admit.

You complain about IC Markets and have not yet tasted the hell it is to operate on kitchen brokers. This, at least, is regulated Australia. If you dont like it, move to a pure ECN, but then dont cry for swaps.

I've been with them for years and I've never had any serious problems... until now. What the creator says is true. I've had 3 stopouts this week for spikes that didn't show up on TradingView or other platforms.

Exactly. Its not just the spread, its also weird execution. I had a 4-pipe slip in a limited order on AUD/USD... and there was no news! I think theyre starting to pull more from the dealer side than from the actual ECN.

Instead of crying so much here, why don't you open a ticket with support and share what you say? Because I did it, you answered me in 10 minutes and adjusted the spread manually with refund. It's not perfect, but at least they respond.

Did they adjust the spread manually? Well, they told me it was market condition and they couldnt do anything. Do you have a VIP account or did you just get a nicer agent?
They are deriving more liquidity from secondary providers, which is why there is more noise in the execution. I was confirmed by an internal contact. And yes, it mainly affects accounts with lower volume.

Then stop selling smoke with your institutional spreads marketing. If they treat you differently for trading 2 or 20 lots, they should clarify it on their page. Zero transparency.

Dont be fooled, all brokers do this at some point. When they get enough retail clientele, the backend adjustments start. It happened with Pepperstone, with FXTM and now IC Markets goes the same way.

I changed to Darwinex and I haven't looked back again. I'm not saying it's perfect, but at least there are no Chinese stories with spreads. And yes, I had a hard time assuming the fixed commission, but I prefer that than playing roulette with my stops.

I am now testing FP Markets as an alternative and, frankly, spreads look much more stable. Maybe its time to open debate on really ECN brokers and not just those that look like it.

FP Markets also has its lights and shadows. Dont idealise. But the IC Markets thing lately is brazen. In Anglo forums alarms are starting to sound too.

Thank you all for sharing. This confirms that it is not my paranoia. I will continue to observe this week and if the behavior is maintained, I close the bill and I leave. I will not keep throwing pips because of its changing liquidity.

I have been reviewing in more detail what is happening with IC Markets and, after analyzing multiple factors, I realize that the problem goes beyond spreads. I have compared real executions between IC Markets and other brokers like Pepperstone, FP Markets and even Darwinex, and notice a clear difference in how they behave to low liquidity conditions. While other brokers maintain some stability (although with wider spreads at times)
I did backtest with real data and there are loops that aren't explained even with news.

That happened to me, too, and the price got me and the TradingView didn't even move from there.
Tremendous analysis, thanks for sharing. This type of info is worth more than any video on YouTube.

I already opened account in another broker. IC was good, but something is changing and not for good.

Do you have captures or execution reports to compare? It would be useful to see specific cases.

If it wasn't for the good leverage and speed of the server, I'd be gone by now.
Thank you for taking the time to write this. Very complete, well argued and with real data. It helps us a lot to those who still doubt whether to continue with IC Markets or not.

And are you absolutely sure it wasn't a local connection error or your VPS? Sometimes the lag comes from the trader's side and not the broker's.

Thank you so much for this detailed info. You gave me just what I needed to reassess my strategy with this broker.

Brutal contribution. This type of comparison between brokers is pure gold. The level of analysis is appreciated.
Isn't it that you're over-analyzing the night spread? All brokers expand it when liquidity drops, it's not exclusive to IC.

Have you tried contacting the broker's compliance directly? Sometimes support doesn't have the tools to respond clearly.

Thanks for the post. It helped me to better understand how routing can influence actual execution.

It is appreciated that you have shown your experience objectively. That is worth much more than the usual baseless complaints.

Will it not simply be an internal adjustment for market conditions? IC still has low spreads most of the time.

I've been with them for two years and I've never had any serious problems.

Did you notice if the Spikes match news moments? That can also cause unrecorded movements on other platforms.

What if what you saw was a simple difference in liquidity between brokers? Its normal that they dont all have the same suppliers.

11-04-2025 05:46,
Have you reported those spikes with captures to the IC support? What exactly did they tell you?
Your explanation of the difference between pure ECN and what IC is doing now was very clear. Thank you for that.

This is worth more than 10 reviews on TrustPilot. Really, thank you for the input.
Don't you think you might be jumping to conclusions? A couple of bad operations don't always reflect a structural problem.

You could also check if the instruments you use are not more exposed to low liquidity. CAD, for example, usually has these peaks.
Great analysis, it opened my eyes to details I'd overlooked.

Seriously, what a piece of explanation, so it can be discussed on a basis.

11-04-2025 06:16,
Do you think the problem comes from IC as a broker or the liquidity provider they use? Sometimes its the middlemans fault.
I still don't understand why you don't use an external bridge if you have an institutional account. Did you try it?

I hadn't noticed about the ghost spikes, but now that you mention it, it happened to me in GBP/JPY. Thank you crack.

Thank you, very useful data on customer support levels. I did not know that they made distinctions between users.

Don't you think IC is still a better choice than brokers like FXCM or eToro? At least they're not declared market makers.
Did you also compare the execution speed on NY vs London servers? Sometimes it changes a lot.

I had a stop run 8 pipes out of my level. IC replied that it was insufficient liquidity. Something is rare.

Have you checked if the platform was up-to-date? Sometimes those problems come from faults in the terminal.
I also had unreplicated movements in TradingView. Its frustrating, but its not always the brokers fault.
Very good contribution. I'm going to check the slide too. Thank you for raising the issue.

Isn't it that you're looking for perfection in an environment that by definition is chaotic like the market?
Nor is it to dramatize so much. Night spreads have been around forever.

If there's no equal treatment between traders, it's time to question everything.
It would be great if you upload an Excel or comparative chart if you have it.
That's a good thread, so it's good to read trading forums.

What if instead of so much technical analysis you try to migrate to a real DMA broker? IC may just not be what it was anymore.
But then, what broker would you stay with as a solid alternative to IC Markets?
