View Full Version : Your broker slips you on purpose?

I've been operating for two years now and after trying out several brokers, I'm starting to get annoyed by a pattern that repeats itself. Just in times of high volatility (such as NFP or type decisions)

I completely agree. I operate with Pepperstone and every time there is a strong fundamental, my orders enter with 3 or 4 pips delay. I no longer believe the better ECN conditions.
And what do you expect? If you operate during NFP, its like going dancing in an earthquake. Dont complain if you fall.

You also have to be careful with the brokers that "re-quote". They show you a nice entrance and then pufff, they change it. It has happened to me several times with XM.
I haven't had so much trouble with IC Markets. Anyone else use it? Maybe I've been lucky, but in my case the execution has been decent, even in news.

Let's see, if your strategy depends on a perfect execution in news... then it's not a strategy, it's a roulette.

Eye, it's not all the broker's fault. Sometimes the platform (MT4/MT5

I've been using VPS for six months. It helps a little, but it doesn't solve the background problem. If the broker puts his hand in, it doesn't matter how fast your connection is.

They slip me into gold in quiet sessions... how do you explain that? Clearly there is an ongoing manipulation.
I've always said that if your broker is your counterpart too, you're fried. Look for brokers who work real STP and not camouflaged market makers.
Something curious has happened to me: in my account I demo everything perfect, but in the real one, the slippage is wild. Coincidence? I don't think so.
jttoNorroura
06-04-2025 16:09,
Exactly, that's what bothers me the most. Why in demo nothing happens? Because there they don't win or lose with our orders, obviously.
I opted for regulated brokers in the UK and the difference is noticeable. They are not saints, but at least they have more to lose if they get caught.
What if we put together a blacklist of brokers who do this? A kind of naming and shaming so that others dont fall.

Good idea. I'll open an Excel with names, events, affected pairs, order type and capture if they have it. Let's make noise. If we don't defend each other, nobody will.

From my experience and analysis, the problem of the slippage and the bad executions in times of high volatility is not only a technical question or of network speed. It is a structural issue of the business model of many brokers. There are two great types of brokers: the ECN/STPs that really connect your orders to the interbank market, and the market makers that operate as the counterpart of your operations. In the seconds, if you win, they lose. Then, what incentive do we have to give you the best execution? Exactly, none. What many do not know is that there is "positive slippage" also, but magically, never present. Why? Because it does not suit the broker. If the market moves in your favor in an entry, in theory you should enter at better price. But most platforms simply ignore that improvement and execute you at the requested price or worse. This should already give us a hint that there is no real transparency in many of these brokers. Another important point is regulation. Not all are equal. A regulated broker in Cyprus is not subject to the same standards as one regulated in Australia or the United Kingdom. And so it does not.
Thank you for taking the time to write this. Very clear and useful!

You've opened my eyes, really.
Okay, but if everyone does the same thing, what's the use of changing?

And how do you know brokers retain positive slip? Do you have clear evidence or is it just theory?
Thank you, this should be framed and stuck on the wall of any novice.

Interesting what you're saying, but do you really think pressuring the brokers is any use?
Very good explanation, thank you for taking the time to write all this.

Again with the conspiracy against the brokers, isn't it that the problem is in your tickets?

Perfect. This type of content is worth gold on this forum. Thank you!

Okay, but have you operated on a real ECN broker or are you just repeating what you've read?

It's all very nice, but when strong news comes, neither ECN nor market maker is saved.
Thank you for taking the job of explaining point by point. Its a luxury to read this.

So, according to you, there's no 100% reliable broker, a little extremist, is there?

One thing is theory and another is trading with real money. Do you have concrete evidence of all this?

Thank you for explaining it so patiently. I now better understand why so many "rare" stops.
I don't know if you realize it, but you're painting the whole market as a fraud.

So, what is the solution according to you? Because saying that everything is wrong is not a solution.

Great contribution. You can tell that you speak from real experience and not from theory.
But then what do we do? Do we stop operating? Because that's what you seem to be suggesting.

Don't you think you're exaggerating a little bit?
Thank you for illuminating the way. It is difficult to find this type of quality content.
It's okay to question, but your approach is too negative. There are also brokers who do things right.
